“I’VE FORGIVEN, BUT DON’T LET THIS HAPPEN AGAIN…” — Joseph Parker Breaks His Silence on Nutritionist at Center of Testing Controversy

Joseph Parker Opens Up After the Storm

Joseph Parker has revealed a strikingly personal side of the controversy that temporarily threatened to derail his boxing career, saying he has forgiven the nutritionist whose cocaine use was linked to the adverse finding while making it clear that he does not want anything similar to happen again.

The former WBO heavyweight champion found himself at the center of an extraordinary anti-doping case after traces of cocaine were detected following his October 2025 defeat to Fabio Wardley at London’s O2 Arena.

For months, Parker’s future remained uncertain. The New Zealander faced the possibility of a much longer suspension and was forced to watch his career move into unfamiliar territory while the case was investigated.

That situation changed dramatically in August 2026 when UK Anti-Doping (UKAD) confirmed that Parker was free to return to sport after determining that any ingestion of cocaine had occurred out of competition and in a context unrelated to sporting performance. UKAD imposed a three-month period of ineligibility, which was deemed already served because Parker had been provisionally suspended since late November 2025.

But Parker’s latest comments have shifted the focus away from the legal and sporting consequences and toward the human side of the ordeal.

Rather than attacking the nutritionist publicly, Parker has spoken about forgiveness, responsibility and lessons learned, insisting that people can make mistakes while also acknowledging the enormous cost of what happened.

“Everyone Makes Mistakes” — Parker Chooses Forgiveness

Parker explained that the experience was extremely difficult, particularly when he first learned that a banned substance had been detected.

According to comments reported by 1News, Parker described the moment as a shock and said he initially feared that his career could be over.

He credited his wife and family for helping him through the most difficult period, saying their support gave him strength when the situation appeared overwhelming.

Yet despite everything that followed, Parker said he had forgiven the nutritionist and remained on friendly terms with him.

His message was remarkably measured considering the consequences.

Parker acknowledged that the mistake had cost him time out of the ring, opportunities and income, while also pointing out that the ordeal unexpectedly gave him more time with his family.

That balance is one of the most revealing elements of Parker’s response.

He is clearly not pretending that the situation was insignificant. At the same time, he appears determined not to allow anger over the controversy to define the next chapter of his career.

For a fighter who spent months facing uncertainty over his professional future, the decision to respond with forgiveness rather than public hostility represents a significant change in tone.

What UKAD Actually Found

The details of the case are extraordinary.

Parker was tested by the Voluntary Anti-Doping Association (VADA) on October 25, 2025, the same day he suffered an 11th-round stoppage defeat against Fabio Wardley.

He also provided a sample to UKAD in the early hours of October 26.

The tests resulted in an adverse analytical finding involving benzoylecgonine, a metabolite of cocaine. Parker consistently denied knowingly or intentionally taking cocaine.

The investigation later centered on the nutritionist Parker had employed during preparations for the Wardley fight.

According to UKAD, Parker submitted evidence on March 6, 2026, arguing that the adverse finding resulted from exposure to cocaine used by the nutritionist.

UKAD said the nutritionist admitted being a regular cocaine user and stated that he had used cocaine daily between October 17 and October 24, 2025.

The nutritionist also stated that this cocaine use took place in his hotel room, where he prepared meals and drinks for Parker.

That became a central part of Parker’s explanation for how the substance could have entered his system without his knowingly taking it.

The Scientific Evidence Became Crucial

The case was not resolved simply because Parker provided an explanation.

UKAD sought additional information and obtained an independent scientific opinion.

According to the published details of the decision, the expert concluded that Parker’s ingestion of cocaine most likely occurred before the competition period began, meaning before 11:59 p.m. on October 24, 2025.

The expert also considered it possible that Parker had orally ingested cocaine through food contaminated by the nutritionist.

However, the scientific opinion did not establish every aspect of the contamination theory as an absolute certainty. It also reportedly could not completely exclude another possibility concerning how the finding arose.

That distinction matters.

UKAD did not simply announce that Parker had been completely exonerated of an anti-doping rule violation. Instead, the organization determined that the ingestion occurred out of competition, meaning cocaine was not prohibited in the circumstances under which the substance was ingested.

As a result, Parker’s provisional suspension was lifted and the three-month sanction was deemed served.

The decision allowed the heavyweight to finally look forward again.

Parker’s Career Was Suddenly Put on Hold

The timing made the controversy even more painful.

Parker had entered his fight with Wardley with significant momentum and major ambitions.

The October 25, 2025 contest was expected to be another important step in his heavyweight journey, but instead it became one of the most difficult nights of his career.

Wardley stopped Parker in the 11th round, ending Parker’s immediate hopes of progressing toward another major world-title opportunity.

Then came the testing controversy.

Suddenly, Parker was dealing with far more than a defeat inside the ring.

His career was placed on hold while the anti-doping process continued.

The uncertainty was particularly damaging for a fighter at this stage of his career. Parker is now 34, and every period away from competition carries greater significance for a heavyweight who has already spent years competing at the highest level.

The possibility of a lengthy suspension therefore represented much more than missing a few fights.

It threatened the future of his entire career.

“How Did This Happen?” — The Human Cost

Parker has spoken openly about the emotional impact of receiving the test result.

He described the experience as extremely difficult and said he was in tears when he first learned what had happened.

His wife and family became an important source of support during the ordeal, with Parker saying his wife reassured him that he had done nothing wrong and remained beside him throughout the training camp and investigation.

That part of the story gives the controversy a different dimension.

For fans, a failed drug test can appear as a simple sporting headline.

For the athlete involved, however, the consequences can be much broader.

Parker was suddenly forced to deal with questions about his reputation, career, future fights and ability to provide for his family.

That pressure was compounded by the fact that the controversy emerged immediately after a painful defeat.

Instead of beginning the next stage of his career, Parker was forced to fight a completely different battle outside the ring.

The Nutritionist’s Role Became the Center of the Case

The nutritionist’s admission fundamentally changed the circumstances surrounding Parker’s case.

UKAD stated that the nutritionist acknowledged regular cocaine use and daily use during the week before Parker’s fight with Wardley.

Parker told Newstalk ZB that he had noticed the nutritionist was dealing with personal issues during the training camp and had advised him to stop.

He also said he had not known about the extent of the nutritionist’s drug use when he hired him.

The revelation created an extraordinary situation in which a fighter’s professional career became entangled with the private behavior of someone responsible for aspects of his preparation.

It also highlighted the enormous level of trust required between professional athletes and members of their support teams.

Nutritionists, trainers, chefs and other members of a fight camp can have access to an athlete’s food, supplements and daily routine.

For athletes competing under strict anti-doping regulations, that relationship carries enormous responsibility.

Parker’s experience has therefore become a powerful reminder that a fighter’s anti-doping obligations do not disappear simply because another person is responsible for preparing food or drinks.

“Anyone Can Make Mistakes” — But Parker Has Learned a Hard Lesson

Parker’s decision to forgive does not mean he has dismissed what happened.

Quite the opposite.

His comments suggest that the ordeal changed his perspective.

He acknowledged that the mistake came at a substantial cost, including lost time, missed opportunities and the disruption of his career.

At the same time, he has chosen to focus on what the experience taught him.

That may ultimately become one of the most important parts of Parker’s comeback.

Instead of allowing the controversy to dominate his identity, the former champion appears determined to use it as a lesson.

The phrase “anyone can make mistakes” captures the philosophy Parker has adopted.

But behind that forgiveness is an unmistakable warning: mistakes of this magnitude can have consequences that extend far beyond the person who makes them.

For Parker, the consequences included months away from the sport he has spent most of his adult life pursuing.

Parker Wants to Fight Again

With the suspension now lifted, Parker has made it clear that he wants to return to action.

In comments reported by 1News, Parker said he was looking for a big fight and was eager to get back into the ring.

That ambition is hardly surprising.

Parker remains one of New Zealand’s most accomplished heavyweight boxers.

He captured the vacant WBO heavyweight title in 2016 by defeating Andy Ruiz Jr. before losing the championship to Anthony Joshua in 2018.

He later rebuilt his career through a series of major heavyweight victories and became a significant figure in the division once again.

His victory over Martin Bakole in February 2025 had further strengthened his position before the Wardley setback changed everything.

Now Parker has another opportunity to rebuild.

But this time, the challenge is not simply physical.

He must return after one of the most unusual and disruptive periods of his professional career.

The Fabio Wardley Chapter Is Not Finished

The Wardley defeat remains an important part of the story.

Parker entered the fight with expectations of advancing toward another major opportunity, only to suffer an 11th-round stoppage.

The defeat was followed by the positive test controversy, creating a sequence of events that effectively froze his career.

Yet Parker has now emerged from that period with his eligibility restored.

That does not erase the loss.

It does, however, give him the opportunity to write a completely different ending to the story.

The next fight will be watched closely because it will represent Parker’s first major opportunity to redefine himself after the controversy.

If he wins impressively, the narrative could change quickly.

Instead of being remembered primarily for the testing controversy, Parker could once again be discussed as a dangerous and experienced heavyweight capable of competing at the highest level.

A Different Kind of Comeback

Parker’s story is now about more than boxing.

It is about trust, accountability, forgiveness and resilience.

The former champion has been through a period in which his career appeared to be slipping away from him.

He faced a failed test, a provisional suspension, a lengthy investigation and the possibility of a much longer absence from competition.

Yet the final outcome has given him a route back.

UKAD confirmed that Parker is free to participate in sport, while the three-month sanction was considered served.

Parker has responded not by escalating the controversy but by looking forward.

His decision to forgive the nutritionist may surprise some fans, particularly given the potential consequences of the situation.

But it also reveals something about Parker’s character.

He understands the seriousness of what happened.

He understands what it cost him.

And he appears determined to make sure that the lesson is not wasted.

Joseph Parker’s Next Chapter Begins Now

The most important question is no longer what happened in the aftermath of the Wardley fight.

The question is what Joseph Parker does next.

At 34, he still has time to produce another major run in the heavyweight division, but the margin for error is becoming smaller.

His career has already included a world title, major victories, difficult defeats and now one of the strangest anti-doping controversies boxing has seen in recent years.

Parker has come through the investigation with his suspension lifted and his future once again in his own hands.

His message is therefore both forgiving and firm.

He has chosen to move on.

He has chosen to focus on his family.

He has chosen to learn from what happened.

And above all, he wants to fight again.

The former champion’s story now enters a new phase — one in which Joseph Parker is no longer waiting for an investigation to determine his future.

He is preparing to determine it himself.

For a fighter who has already survived setbacks inside the ring, this may become the most important comeback of his career.

And if Parker returns with the same determination that helped him climb back to heavyweight relevance before, the controversy that once threatened to define his career could eventually become nothing more than a difficult chapter he managed to overcome.
